Monitoring of Vegetated Filter Strips

Investigators:
Steve Komor, USGS; Dave Wall, MPCA;

Objectives:
Monitor vegetated filter strips to determine their effectiveness in treating feedlot runoff and runoff seepage so that greater information is obtained on this relatively low-cost feedlot pollution abatement technique.

Description:
Two sites are currently being investigated. Runoff and groundwater monitoring systems are set up at each site. Samples of groundwater and runoff are being collected and analyzed -both upslope and downslope of the filter strip.

Results:
Data is being collected.
