Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the target emission rates (regulatory emission standards) for these gases you are measuring?
A. The EPA regulates several air pollutants. These regulations are specific to the pollutant and the geographic area in the US (non-attainment areas). Have EPA answer the question and include Battye information on current EPA baseline emission rates for ammonia.

Q. Can this emission data collected in one state be transferred to other states with significantly different ambient conditions?
A. This project provides critical baseline information about annual, maximum and minimum emission rates. It is likely that these emission rates will be different for other farms in other locations. General information such as diurinal fluctuations in emissions and relationships between temperatures and emissions are likely transferable and will be very valuable.

Q. Are there any other large funded projects (or future funded projects) evaluating emissions?
A. Yes, IFAFS has another large funded project evaluating emissions from poultry facilities (http://www.bae.uky.edu/internal/IFAFS_test/default.htm ). The EPA/USDA is also in discussions with the animal agriculture industry to fund similar work.
